Clay County Mugshots & Booking Records

Downtown Moorhead, the seat of Clay County and the Minnesota half of the Fargo-Moorhead metro on the Red River.

Clay County sits on Minnesota's western edge, where the Red River separates Moorhead from its larger twin, Fargo, North Dakota. The Minnesota half of the Fargo-Moorhead metro, it blends the college-town energy of Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College with the sugar-beet and grain farming of the fertile Red River Valley.
Anyone booked into custody in Clay County is held at the Clay County Correctional Facility, the Sheriff's Office jail at 800 9th Street North in Moorhead, MN 56560. The roughly 75,900-square-foot building is rated for about 220 inmates and classifies minimum-, medium-, and maximum-custody men and women. Arrests made by the Clay County Sheriff's Office and by municipal police departments across the county are booked, photographed, and held here while charges work through the district court. After intake, a person may post bail or remain in custody until an initial court appearance, with the booking logged as part of the county's arrest records.
To check whether someone is currently held, the Sheriff's Office posts a live inmate roster on the county website. For booking photos and past arrest records from across Clay County, you can also browse the Clay County mugshot gallery on this site.
About Clay County
Clay County was established in 1860 and named for Henry Clay, the Kentucky statesman, with Moorhead as its county seat and by far its largest city. Beyond Moorhead—home to roughly 45,000 people—the county takes in smaller communities such as Dilworth, Barnesville, Hawley, and Glyndon, spread across flat Red River Valley farmland that gives way to lakes and rolling hills toward the east. Together with Fargo across the Red River, Moorhead anchors a metropolitan area of more than 200,000 residents straddling the Minnesota–North Dakota line. The county's economy leans on health care, education, retail, and agriculture: the dark soils of the Red River Valley produce sugar beets, corn, soybeans, and wheat, and American Crystal Sugar is headquartered in Moorhead. Minnesota State University Moorhead and Concordia College give the county seat an unusually deep concentration of higher education for its size, while the Hjemkomst Center and its replica Viking ship draw visitors downtown. Clay County's booking records sit alongside those of Minnesota's most populous county, Hennepin County, and other greater-Minnesota regional centers such as Olmsted County in the statewide Minnesota mugshots directory.
