The Blue Earth County Jail sits inside the Blue Earth County Justice Center at 401 Carver Road in Mankato, MN 56001, where the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office books and holds people arrested across the county. Intake here covers adult men and women picked up by the Sheriff's Office and by city police departments, from those awaiting a first court appearance to people serving short sentences. Because the Justice Center also houses the district court, the county attorney, and probation, a case can move from booking to a courtroom without leaving the building. After booking, a person may post bail and be released or stay in custody, and the arrest becomes part of the county's public booking record.

About Blue Earth County

Organized in 1853 and home to about 69,000 residents, Blue Earth County lies in south-central Minnesota with Mankato as its county seat and by far its largest city. The county and its river take their name from the blue-green clay once visible along the riverbanks — mahkato, or “blue earth,” in the Dakota language — which drew the French explorer Pierre-Charles Le Sueur to the valley around 1700.
