About Beltrami County

Beltrami County was created in 1866 and organized in 1896, taking its name from Giacomo Beltrami, an Italian explorer who traveled the region's lakes and rivers in 1825. Home to roughly 46,000 people, the county centers on Bemidji, its seat and by far its largest city, set on the shore of Lake Bemidji; smaller communities include Blackduck, Kelliher, Solway, and Tenstrike.
