Aitkin County Mugshots & Booking Records

Aitkin County carries the name of William Alexander Aitken, an American Fur Company trader who worked these woods long before Minnesota was a state. The Mississippi River curls south through the county, past the wild-rice marshes of the Rice Lake refuge and the old Savanna Portage that once carried canoes toward Lake Superior. This is lake country — lightly settled, heavily forested, and far from the Twin Cities.
People arrested anywhere in Aitkin County are booked into the Aitkin County Jail, the Sheriff's Office lockup at 218 1st Street NW in the county's law-enforcement complex in downtown Aitkin, MN 56431. The jail is staffed by the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office, which books people arrested by its own deputies as well as city officers and state troopers working the area. Each arrest creates a booking record, and the Sheriff's Office shows who is being held at the time on an online Aitkin County jail roster.
Our Aitkin County mugshots page collects the latest booking photos taken at the county jail and lays them out in a single gallery, so you can follow who has been arrested across this stretch of north-central Minnesota.
About Aitkin County
Aitkin County was set off in 1857 and formally organized in 1871, taking its name from the fur trader William Alexander Aitken. Roughly 15,700 people are spread across nearly 2,000 square miles of forest, bog, and lake, which makes it one of the least crowded counties in Minnesota. The city of Aitkin, on the Mississippi River, is the county seat and also the county's biggest town, trailed by smaller communities such as McGregor, Hill City, Palisade, and Tamarack. Logging, tourism, and outdoor recreation carry much of the economy, with Savanna Portage State Park and the Rice Lake National Wildlife Refuge pulling in paddlers, hunters, and birdwatchers.
Aitkin draws its biggest crowd each November for the World Famous Fish House Parade, when residents tow decorated ice-fishing shacks down Main Street the day after Thanksgiving to ring in the hard-water season. The county is ringed by neighbors that post their own arrest records: Crow Wing County and the Brainerd lakes to the west, Carlton County toward Duluth on the east, and Pine County to the southeast. You can reach those pages, and every other county we cover, through our Minnesota mugshots hub.
