Itasca County Mugshots & Booking Records

The Itasca County Courthouse in Grand Rapids, the county seat. Bookings are handled at the county jail nearby, not at this building.

Itasca County sits in north-central Minnesota, where the western end of the Mesabi Iron Range gives way to more than 1,400 lakes and the pine country of the Chippewa National Forest. Grand Rapids, the county seat on the upper Mississippi River, grew up around logging and the Blandin paper mill and is remembered as the birthplace of the actress Judy Garland.
The Itasca County Sheriff's Office operates the county jail in Grand Rapids, booking and holding people who are arrested throughout the county. The jail shares the Sheriff's Office building at 108 NE 5th Street, Grand Rapids, MN 55744, and the county runs a second detention facility, a jail annex, nearby; together they handle arrestees awaiting a court date and people serving short local sentences. Booking is what creates the arrest record and the mugshot, and from there a person may post bail, be released on their own recognizance, or remain held until appearing before a judge.
The Itasca County Sheriff's Office publishes an online inmate search that shows who is currently in custody at the county jail. Our Itasca County mugshot gallery collects recent booking photos tied to arrests in the county.
About Itasca County
Itasca County was established in 1849 and named for Lake Itasca, whose name was coined from the Latin for “true head” to mark the true source of the Mississippi River. The lake itself no longer lies within the county — it sits in present-day Clearwater County, a reminder that Itasca once covered far more ground than it does today. About 45,000 people live here now, with 45,014 counted in the 2020 census. Grand Rapids, on the upper Mississippi, is the county seat and largest city; other communities include Deer River, Bigfork, Cohasset, Bovey, Coleraine, Nashwauk, and Keewatin. More than 1,400 lakes lie within its borders — among them Lake Winnibigoshish, Pokegama Lake, and Bowstring Lake — along with broad stretches of the Chippewa National Forest.
The county's economy was built on its forests and its iron. Grand Rapids began as a Mississippi River logging town in the 1870s and turned to papermaking when the Blandin paper mill, now run by UPM, opened in 1901, while the western reach of the Mesabi Iron Range brought ore mining to towns such as Coleraine, Bovey, Nashwauk, and Keewatin. Grand Rapids is also the birthplace of Judy Garland, who was born there in 1922 and is remembered at the Judy Garland Museum and her restored childhood home. To look further afield, you can browse St. Louis County to the east, where the Mesabi Range continues toward Duluth, and Beltrami County in the same north-woods lake country, or visit the statewide Minnesota mugshots directory.
