Just 12 miles south of downtown Lexington, Nicholasville has grown into one of the largest cities in the Lexington metro area. Jessamine County, with approximately 55,000 residents, sits in the heart of the Bluegrass Region where horse farms meet the dramatic palisades of the Kentucky River.
The Jessamine County Detention Center is located in Nicholasville and processes bookings from the Jessamine County Sheriff's Office, Nicholasville Police Department, Wilmore Police Department, and other local agencies. Booking records are publicly accessible under the Kentucky Open Records Act (KRS 61.870–61.884). The facility has expanded in recent years to accommodate the county's growing population.
Nicholasville is located approximately 12 miles south of downtown Lexington along U.S. Route 27 and has grown into one of the largest cities in the Lexington metro area. The city has experienced substantial commercial and residential development, particularly along the Nicholasville Road (US 27) corridor that connects it directly to Lexington. Wilmore, a smaller city in the southern part of the county, is home to Asbury University and Asbury Theological Seminary.
About Jessamine County
Jessamine County is one of Kentucky's fastest-growing counties, driven by its proximity to Lexington and relatively affordable housing. The county's landscape is classic Bluegrass—rolling horse farms, limestone outcroppings, and the dramatic palisades of the Kentucky River, which forms much of the county's western and southern boundaries. Camp Nelson National Monument, a significant Civil War site along the Kentucky River, is located in the county and was designated a national monument in 2018. The county's economy is largely residential and service-oriented, with most professional employment tied to the Lexington metro area.
