Fayette County is the second most populous county in Kentucky with approximately 323,000 residents. It is coextensive with the City of Lexington as a merged city-county government and home to the Fayette County Detention Center, one of the state's busiest booking facilities.
The Fayette County Detention Center (FCDC) is operated by the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Division of Community Corrections. Located at 600 Old Frankfort Circle in Lexington, the facility serves as the sole booking and detention center for all arrests within Fayette County. The Lexington Police Department, University of Kentucky Police, and other agencies within the county route all arrestees to FCDC for processing.
FCDC provides a publicly accessible online inmate search that includes booking photographs, charge information, bond amounts, and projected release dates. The system updates in near-real-time as bookings are processed. The facility has faced periodic overcrowding challenges, with the average daily population frequently exceeding design capacity.
About Fayette County
Fayette County and the City of Lexington operate under a merged urban-county government established in 1974, making it one of the earliest city-county consolidations in the United States. Lexington is Kentucky's second-largest city and the center of the Bluegrass Region, famous worldwide for its thoroughbred horse farms. The University of Kentucky, with over 30,000 students, is the county's largest employer and a major influence on local demographics and law enforcement activity. The county seat is Lexington. Fayette County's economy is driven by higher education, equine industry, healthcare (UK HealthCare, Baptist Health), manufacturing (Toyota's Georgetown plant is in adjacent Scott County), and a growing technology sector.
