About Cleburne County

Carved on February 20, 1883, from slices of Independence, Van Buren, and White counties, Cleburne County was the seventy-fifth and final county Arkansas ever drew on the map, and was named for Patrick Cleburne, the Irish-born Confederate general. The seat, Heber Springs, began as a mineral-springs resort whose guests once rode the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad in to drink the waters.
