Hamilton County, with a population of approximately 830,000, is the third most populous county in Ohio. Home to Cincinnati, the county processes all bookings through the Hamilton County Justice Center in downtown Cincinnati.
The Hamilton County Justice Center is a combined courthouse and jail facility located at 1000 Sycamore Street in downtown Cincinnati. The jail component serves as the central booking facility for all arrests made within Hamilton County, including those by the Cincinnati Police Department, Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, and suburban police departments throughout the county. The facility's downtown location adjacent to the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas allows for efficient processing of arraignments and court appearances.
Hamilton County provides an online inmate search system that allows the public to look up current and recently released detainees. The system displays booking photographs, charges, bond information, and scheduled court dates. Booking records are public under the Ohio Public Records Act (ORC § 149.43), and the county's online system is one of the more user-friendly interfaces among Ohio's large counties.
About Hamilton County
Hamilton County anchors the Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area, which spans the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana tri-state region. Cincinnati, the county seat, is Ohio's third-largest city with a population of approximately 309,000 within city limits. The city is a major corporate headquarters hub, home to Procter & Gamble, Kroger, Fifth Third Bank, and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. The Cincinnati Police Department is one of the oldest municipal police forces in the country, established in 1852.
The county includes numerous suburban communities such as Norwood, Forest Park, Sharonville, and Indian Hill. The suburban ring accounts for a substantial portion of the county's population and maintains separate police departments that book arrestees into the county's central facility. Hamilton County's location on the Ohio River at the Kentucky border creates jurisdictional considerations, as the river itself falls entirely within Kentucky's jurisdiction under an 1890 U.S. Supreme Court ruling.
